Steel Solar Canopies

Steel solar canopies are designed primarily for commercial applications, where strength, durability, and long-term performance are essential. Constructed from structural-grade steel, these systems are engineered to withstand demanding environments and are expected to achieve design lifespans in excess of 50 years, comfortably supporting multiple solar panel life cycles over time.

In addition to providing reliable renewable energy generation, steel canopies deliver high-quality weather protection for users and vehicles, enhancing the overall functionality of the car park. They also make a strong visual statement, clearly demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction, and can contribute positively towards EPC improvements and the transformation of underutilised brownfield sites into high-performing, environmentally responsible assets.

A wide range of configurations is available to suit different layouts and requirements, including single and double-row systems, cantilever designs, and bespoke arrangements. Steel structures also offer excellent flexibility for integration, allowing for features such as internal lighting, CCTV systems, EV charging infrastructure, and cable management to be incorporated seamlessly.

Finishes can be tailored to suit project aesthetics, including galvanised and spray-painted coatings in any RAL colour, with colour-coordinated roofing sheets available where required. Beyond the canopy itself, we can support wider car park infrastructure, including access control systems and standalone renewable-powered lighting solutions combining solar, wind, and battery storage.

While primarily intended for commercial use, steel canopies can also be specified for domestic applications where a more robust, long-life solution is desired.

Timber Solar Carports - Available in Oak, Larch or Douglas Fir

view all Timber Solar Carports

Our timber solar carports are available as a fully timber construction option, using high-quality UK-grown and milled oak, larch, or Douglas fir. These structures offer a warm, natural aesthetic that complements residential settings, particularly where visual appeal is a key consideration.

However, due to the structural characteristics of timber, these canopies are recommended primarily for domestic applications. The achievable span is typically limited to a maximum of two parking bays, and the lateral strength of timber uprights is significantly lower than that of steel. As a result, they are more vulnerable to impact damage, even at relatively low vehicle speeds, which could lead to structural failure of the support elements.

For these reasons, timber-only canopies are not generally advised for commercial or high-traffic environments, where durability, impact resistance, and larger spans are required.
