A Note On Parking Bay Sizes:
When assessing the area needed for staff and customer parking, it should be noted that the current UK norm for parking spaces is 2.4m wide by 4.8 m long. However please note that several models of modern vehicles are more than 4.8m long. The recommended space for manoeuvring (roadways) between bays is 6m.
These dimensions are neither minimum nor written in tablets of stone and may be revised to suit your particular needs, but remember that good access and wider bays aid efficient use of the parking area and are much more pleasant for your customers to use.
Bay Sizes For Motorists With Disabilities: The BSI British Standards Code provides some guidance as to what is required - disabled access parking spaces should be 2400mm x 4800mm with a 1200mm wide marked access zone between spaces and a 1200mm wide safety zone for boot access. Government guidelines (Inclusive Mobility published by DfT) recommend that 6% of parking should be allocated to disabled people, unless otherwise covered by local planning regulations. The guidance also recommends how to identify these spaces, with special markings and signage.
For more information on parking in the UK visit: The British Parking Association
A Note On Vehicle Heights:
Commercial Vehicles: If the car park is frequently used by commercial vehicles, a 2.50-metre clearance could potentially cause issues. Common commercial van heights include:
- H1 (Standard)
- H2 (High Top)
- H3 (Super High Top)
For example, the height of a VW Crafter can range from 2.30 metres to 3.20 metres, depending on the model.
Notes On The Site
Site Survey: |
This budget estimate is intended as a guide price. A site survey would be required to confirm all details of this estimate. |
Current Site Use: |
Staff/Public Car Park. |
Current Site Surface: |
Tarmac. |
Finished Site Use: |
Staff/Public Car Park. |
Finished Site Surface: |
The car park surface is to be re-tarmacked where disturbed. Painted parking bay lines where required, colour tbc. |
Site Suitability: |
The proposed site falls within the required parameters for KaraSolar Steel Canopies in windspeed, snow load, altitude, and environmental exposure. Unless a previous report has been issued a full geotechnical site investigation is required to determine the foundation design parameters and ensure that the minimum requirements of the design have been met or to determine the new foundation design specification and/or type of foundation to be adopted. KaraSolar can undertake a geotechnical survey on the client’s behalf if required, an additional cost would be applicable for this service and would be billed under project design costs. |
Underground Services: |
We would require a site services plan of the proposed site location before confirmation to establish the existence of any underground services. KaraSolar can undertake a services survey on the client’s behalf if required, an additional cost would be applicable for this service and would be billed under project design costs. |
Drainage: |
We would require a site services plan to establish the location of any existing drainage services to establish the best method of connecting the proposed structures to a suitable drainage system. |
Solar Shading: |
It would appear there may be a late afternoon winter shading issue to any of the canopy, no shading issues to roof mounted system . If it is necessary for any trees to be destroyed during this project, KaraSolar will undertake to plant at least double the number of trees of a suitable species on the same or alternative site. |
Known Site Hazards: |
Public Car Park. Site fencing is required to allow continued use of the car park during installation. Underground Hazards: Unknown Above Head Hazards: Unknown |
Waste Removal: |
KaraSolar will ensure the site is left clean, tidy and ready for public use. All waste materials will be recycled wherever possible. |
Schedule of Works: |
To be confirmed. |
Electrical Connection: |
Connection to existing electrical system TBC |
DNO Approval |
DNO Approval would be required before connecting this system to the grid. KaraSolar can take care of this on your behalf. It is highly recommended to get either approval or upgrade costs from the DNO before any contract is signed. |
Planning Approval: |
PV systems on solar carports may not mean the system is automatically permitted without prior planning approval. Please check with your local planning office. KaraSolar Ltd. shall provide the information, drawings and layouts sufficient to allow a Lawful Development Certificate or full planning approval to be applied for. Should you require any help with your planning application we are very happy to recommend the following specialists. Andrea Fox Solar Planning e. admin@solar-planning.com |

I hope you will forgive our cheekiness but your roof is just too perfect for solar to ignore.
We have included solar calculations for the roof in addition to the canopy. You will notice the kW per £ price for installing on the roof as apposed to the canopy is significantly lower.

Total System Estimated Annual Generation:
The system performance chart is an estimate of what you could expect your solar system to generate.
- The orange bar represents the expected kWh per day your system should create
- The grey background represents your current (or projected) kWh power usage.
The more accurate you are able to provide current energy usage data the more accurate we can estimated the impact of installing solar. For example, determining energy consumption curves allows us to calculate battery requirements and more accurate bill savings. Please speak with your project manager to increase the accuracy of these projections.
