A Note On Parking Bay Sizes:

When assessing the area needed for staff and customer parking, it should be noted that the current UK norm for parking spaces is 2.4m wide by 4.8 m long. However please note that several models of modern vehicles are more than 4.8m long.  The recommended space for manoeuvring (roadways) between bays is 6m.

These dimensions are neither minimum nor written in tablets of stone and may be revised to suit your particular needs, but remember that good access and wider bays aid efficient use of the parking area and are much more pleasant for your customers to use.

Bay Sizes For Motorists With Disabilities: The BSI British Standards Code provides some guidance as to what is required - disabled access parking spaces should be 2400mm x 4800mm with a 1200mm wide marked access zone between spaces and a 1200mm wide safety zone for boot access. Government guidelines (Inclusive Mobility published by DfT) recommend that 6% of parking should be allocated to disabled people, unless otherwise covered by local planning regulations. The guidance also recommends how to identify these spaces, with special markings and signage.

For more information on parking in the UK visit: The British Parking Association

Indra-Solar-PV-Car-Parking-Canopy-8.6m-EV-Parking-Layout
EV Charger Bay Sizes: It is recommended to leave additional access zones between parking bays intended for EV Charging.  This allows for some vehicles that plug and charge from the side. These bays should also be clearly marked and include eye-level signage.
Disabled EV Charger Bays: As the number of electric vehicles in the UK grows as will the requirement for EV charger bays.  There are currently no guidelines on providing disabled parking bays with EV chargers so we highly recommend creating EV charger bays with the required 1.2m marked area between the bays and thus automatically making all your EV charger bays suitable for people with disabilities.

Notes On The Site

Current Site Use:

Public Car Park. Planning permission maybe required, please check with your local authority.

Current Site Surface:

Tarmac

Finished Site Use:

Public Car Park

Finished Surface:

Carpark surface to be retarmacked.  Parking bay lines painted (colour to be confirmed).

Site Suitability:

The proposed site falls within the required parameters for all KaraSolar Steel Canopies in windspeed, snow load, altitude, and environmental exposure.

Unless a previous report has been issued a full geotechnical site investigation is required to determine the foundation design parameters and ensure that the minimum requirements of the design have been met or to determine the new foundation design specification and/or type of foundation to be adopted.

KaraSolar can undertake a geotechnical survey on the client’s behalf if required, an additional cost would be applicable for this service and would be billed under project design costs.

Underground Services:

We would require a site services plan of the proposed site location before confirmation to establish the existence of any underground services.

Drainage:

We would require a site services plan to establish the location of any existing drainage services to establish the best method of connecting the proposed structures to a suitable drainage system.

Electrical Connection:

KaraSolar will install a steel GRP vented housing unit to contain the inverter and consumer unit for the structure.  The location of the housing unit will be confirmed during a site visit with the client.

Electrical components including solar panels to be supplied and installs by EFS Ltd and are not included in this budget estimate.

Solar Shading:

It would appear there are no shading issues in the proposed location with the exception of canopy F that will be effect by the wind turbine to the south of the site.  Optimisers would be recommended on this canopy.

Electrical components including solar panels to be supplied and installs by EFS Ltd and are not included in this budget estimate.

If it is necessary for any trees to be destroyed during this project, KaraSolar will undertake to plant double the number of trees of a suitable species on the same or alternative site.

Known Site Hazards:

Public Car Park.

Site fencing is required to allow continued use of the car park during installation.

Underground Hazards: Unknown

Above Head Hazards: Unknown

Waste Removal:

KaraSolar will ensure the site is left clean, tidy and ready for public use.  All waste materials will be recycled wherever possible.

Schedule of Works:

To be confirmed.

KaraSolar is aware there are requirements to have minimal impact on the daily operation of the car park during installation.

We are of course happy to fit with the client's requirements wherever possible.

GENERAL:

The design of the structure contains the following site location limitations:

  • Site located further than 500m from a coastline.
  • Site location no greater than 100m altitude.
  • Maximum site basic wind speed (BS EN 1991-1-4) = 23.5 m/s.
  • Snow load (BS EN 1991-1-3) = 0.60 kN/m².
  • No blockage allowances have been made to the canopy within a distance of 5.0m which could increase wind uplift pressures.

Any sites that fall outside this criterion are required to be independently checked and reported to KaraSolar prior to fabrication to determine the new framework design specification.

KaraSolar can undertake a full site survey if required, an additional cost would be applicable for this service and would be billed under project design costs.

FOUNDATIONS:

A full geotechnical site investigation is required to determine the foundation design parameters and ensure that the minimum requirements of the design have been met. If the requirements are not met the Client is responsible for contacting KaraSolar to determine the new foundation design specification and / or type of foundation to be adopted.

KaraSolar can undertake a geotechnical survey on the client’s behalf if required, an additional cost would be applicable for this service and would be billed under project design costs.

CONCRETE:

Foundations must not be cast within aggressive soil environments, free from sulphates, chlorides, and saline environments. All concrete work to be constructed in accordance with the National Structural Concrete Specification, latest edition.  All material and workmanship shall be in accordance with BS EN 1992 / BS 8110 including all latest amendments.

STEELWORK:

This steelwork specification is not suitable for sites located within 500m from a coastline, saline, chloride and/or sulphur dioxide environments, within swimming pool and high humidity environments, or subject to airborne corrosive elements. If sites of this nature are required then the specification of the steelwork needs to be discussed with KaraSolar prior to fabrication.

Structural steelwork is to be in accordance with the National Structural Steelwork Specification for Building Construction (latest edition). All structural steelwork to be hot rolled mild steel Grade S355, and all mild steel plates to be Grade S275 to BS EN 10025 (latest edition), unless noted otherwise.

All bolts and nuts to be Grade 8.8 to BS 4190 (latest edition), unless noted otherwise. All bolts to have washers to BS 4320 (latest edition), under the nuts. All internal bolts, nuts and washers are to be sherardized to BS EN 737-8 (latest edition) so that no additional painting is required after erection. All external bolts are to be hot dip galvanized to BS 7371-6 (latest edition). Where splice connections have been noted, all bolts to be High Strength Friction Grip (HSFG) bolts.

All steelwork below ground to receive a high build epoxy coating to give a dry film thickness of minimum 450μm.

For more information on the technical specifications please contact your Project Manager (Duncan Hamilton-Blythe).

The system performance chart is an estimate of what you could expect your solar system to generate.

  • The orange bar represents the expected kWh per day your system should create
  • The grey background represents your current (or projected) kWh power usage.

The more accurate you are able to provide current energy usage data the more accurate we can estimated the impact of installing solar.  For example, determining energy consumption curves allows us to calculate battery requirements and more accurate bill savings.  Please speak with your project manager to increase the accuracy of these projections.
