Design, supply, install timber solar canopy to single phase domestic property.

Welcome to your KaraSolar Design Proposal

KaraSolar are revolutionising the way carparks are utilised by transforming them into sustainable powerhouses. Our innovative solar canopies not only provide shade and protection for vehicles but also harness the sun’s energy to generate clean, renewable power.

Why Choose Our Solar Canopies?
  • Eco-Friendly Energy: Embrace a greener future with our solar canopies that reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainable energy use.
  • Cost Savings: Lower your energy bills and potentially earn through energy credits with our efficient solar technology.
  • Enhanced Carpark Experience: Our canopies offer shade and protection from the elements, improving comfort for your customers or employees.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Modern and sleek designs that enhance the visual appeal of your carpark while demonstrating your commitment to sustainability.

A Note On Parking Bay Sizes:

When assessing the area needed for staff and customer parking, it should be noted that the current UK norm for parking spaces is 2.4m wide by 4.8 m long. However please note that several models of modern vehicles are more than 4.8m long.  The recommended space for manoeuvring (roadways) between bays is 6m.

These dimensions are neither minimum nor written in tablets of stone and may be revised to suit your particular needs, but remember that good access and wider bays aid efficient use of the parking area and are much more pleasant for your customers to use.

Bay Sizes For Motorists With Disabilities: The BSI British Standards Code provides some guidance as to what is required - disabled access parking spaces should be 2400mm x 4800mm with a 1200mm wide marked access zone between spaces and a 1200mm wide safety zone for boot access. Government guidelines (Inclusive Mobility published by DfT) recommend that 6% of parking should be allocated to disabled people, unless otherwise covered by local planning regulations. The guidance also recommends how to identify these spaces, with special markings and signage.

For more information on parking in the UK visit: The British Parking Association

Indra-Solar-PV-Car-Parking-Canopy-8.6m-EV-Parking-Layout
EV Charger Bay Sizes: It is recommended to leave additional access zones between parking bays intended for EV Charging.  This allows for some vehicles that plug and charge from the side. These bays should also be clearly marked and include eye-level signage.
Disabled EV Charger Bays: As the number of electric vehicles in the UK grows as will the requirement for EV charger bays.  There are currently no guidelines on providing disabled parking bays with EV chargers so we highly recommend creating EV charger bays with the required 1.2m marked area between the bays and thus automatically making all your EV charger bays suitable for people with disabilities.

Transform your carpark into a beacon of sustainability

We are dedicated to providing top-quality solar canopy solutions tailored to meet your specific needs. Our team of experts handles everything from design and installation to maintenance, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free experience.

A Note On Vehicle Heights:
When planning the placement of solar canopies, it is essential to consider the maximum height of vehicles that may use the car park, not just those parking under the canopy. Thought should be given to high-sided vehicles manoeuvring around the structures.  Our solar carports and canopies are typically designed with a vehicle clearance height of 2.50 metres.  We can increase this height, however, this would increase the overall canopy height and potentially create planning issues and/or lower the roof pitch therefore lowering the solar performance.  An increase in canopy height may also make it necessary to increase the canopy's specifications.
Domestic Vehicles: All our Solar Canopies and Carports comfortably accommodate all vehicles intended for domestic use. One of the tallest in this category, the Land Rover Discovery, stands at 2.00 metres high. The vehicles shown in most of our drawings are the Jaguar F-Pace (1.66 metres high) and/or the Jaguar I-Pace (1.56 metres high).
Image
example vehicle Jaguar F-Pace

Commercial Vehicles: If the car park is frequently used by commercial vehicles, a 2.50-metre clearance could potentially cause issues. Common commercial van heights include:

  • H1 - Standard - up to 2.50m
  • H2 - High Top - up to 2.90m
  • H3 - Super High Top - up to 3.20m

For example, the height of a VW Crafter can range from 2.30 metres to 3.20 metres high, depending on the model.

Image
To reduce the potential risks, we recommend clearly displaying canopy height restrictions with signs at eye level located at the car park entrance and on the canopies themselves. Allowances should also be made at the ends of the structures to prevent high-sided vehicles from colliding with the canopy while manoeuvring.  Where possible, implementing a height restriction at the point of entry is an even more effective solution.

Private Driveway

Finished Site Surface:

TBC

Site Suitability:

The proposed site falls within the required parameters for KaraSolar Timber Canopies in terms of windspeed, snow load, altitude, and environmental exposure.

Underground Services:

We would require a site services plan of the proposed site location before confirmation to establish the existence of any underground services.

KaraSolar can undertake a services survey on the client’s behalf during our initial site survey.

Drainage:

We would require a site services plan to establish the location of any existing drainage services to establish the best method of connecting the proposed structures to a suitable drainage system.

KaraSolar can undertake a services survey on the client’s behalf during our initial site survey.

Solar Shading:

It would appear there are no shading issues to the canopy, we will confirm during a site visit.

If it is necessary for any trees to be destroyed during this project, KaraSolar will undertake to plant at least double the number of trees of a suitable species on the same or alternative site.

Known Site Hazards:

Security/Safety Fencing Required.

Underground Hazards: Unknown

Above Head Hazards: Unknown

Waste Removal:

KaraSolar will ensure the site is left clean, tidy and ready for use. All waste materials will be recycled wherever possible.

Schedule of Works:

To be confirmed.

Electrical Connection:

Connection to existing electrical system TBC

DNO Approval

DNO Approval would be required before connecting this system to the grid. KaraSolar can take care of this on your behalf.

It is highly recommended to get either approval or upgrade costs from the DNO before any contract is signed.

Planning Approval:

PV systems on solar carports may not mean the system is automatically permitted without prior planning approval. Please check with your local planning office.

KaraSolar Ltd. shall provide the information, drawings and layouts sufficient to allow a Lawful Development Certificate or full planning approval to be applied for.

Should you require any help with your planning application we are very happy to recommend the following specialists.

All KaraSolar Canopies and Services Meet UK Building Standards and Eurocodes.

The Eurocodes are a set of structural design standards, developed by CEN (European Committee for Standardisation), to cover the design of all types of structures in steel, concrete, timber, masonry and aluminium. In the UK, they are published by BSI under the designations BS EN 1990 to BS EN 1999; each of these ten Eurocodes is published in several Parts and each Part is accompanied by a National Annex that implements the CEN document and adds certain UK-specific provisions.

Utility savings based on switch from Energy Direct Jul23v3 to Intelligent Octopus Go South Western – Jul 24

Your projected energy cost is calculated by considering a 7.0% increase in energy cost each year, due to trends in the raising cost of energy. This estimate is based on your selected preferences, current energy costs and the position and orientation of your roof to calculate the efficiency of the system. Projections are based on estimated usage of 7533 kWh per year, assuming Energy Direct Jul23v3 Electricity Tariff.

Your electricity tariff rates may change as a result of installing the system. You should contact your electricity retailer for further information.
